I have made a lot of talk about revising the three books on my blogs (not sure I did that on this one since it was a lot of talk over the summer). The books I am refering to are An Unlikely Place for Love, The Cold Wife, and An Inconvenient Marriage. This morning, I have decided not to pursue the revisions. I do have the revised edition for The Cold Wife complete but I'll just go with the old version on my website.
Why did I change my mind?
Why did I change my mind?
Well, over the past couple of weeks, I have been getting emails from readers who keep asking me about my other books. These are my pre-romance books, like my fantasy and young adult books. Then I got some concern from some readers about the revised versions of An Unlikely Place for Love, The Cold Wife, and An Inconvenient Marriage. They're wondering if they should read the books again, how much will the books change, etc....
So I realized something this morning: my revised versions of An Unlikely Place for Love, The Cold Wife, and An Inconvenient Marriage will have different covers and might mislead some people who do not read my blogs or my newsletters or my website into buying the same book, only to find out that they are reading a very lightly revised new version. (So this could be a potential waste of money if they are looking into buying the paperback version.) That's not good for anyone. If I am having questions regarding my fantasy and young adult books, then revised editions of the same book could be troublesome.
The changes I was going to make in those three books are minor and yes, I made a misspelling in a word that keeps showing up through the whole book (so it's a consistent error) but you know, it's not really that big of a deal. I mean, yes for some people it will be a big deal and since my books are free, they don't have to read them and if they do, at least they didn't waste the money on them. As for PG 13 to R... Who cares? I've come to realize that even that is such a minor point that it's not worth messing with.
So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to keep them in their original form and post them as free reads on my website. Well, An Unlikley Place for Love is already a free ebook. The other two will just go up there too. I am still having trouble getting my books on Kindle though. I don't know why. It gets to the download your file process and gets stuck there. So yeah, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that one. I guess nothing if it doesn't work. At least, I have some books on there. Kindle still makes up the bulk of my actual sales.
I'm going to put my books on Lulu as another way for people to access the free ebook version. Apparently, quite a few people are having trouble downloading the book directly off my website. So we'll see if putting them on Lulu will make a difference for that. Most people are able to get my downloads though, so that is good.
Okay. So now I have to go tweak on my website tomorrow to make the announcement for the keeping of the original versions of those three books and I'll see about getting things started with Lulu. Another reason I've looked into Lulu is because my international readers want the ability to buy books that will ship to them. CreateSpace (through Amazon) is U.S. centered. As far as I know, those books do not even go to Canada. Maybe I'm wrong on that. **************************************** *******************
Oh, but I am revising The Vampire Killer. The ending totally sucked in the original and I am changing it. I'm republishing it under the pen name JB Russell. This is not a romance. It's a YA Suspense, and unlike the other vampire books where the vampire is a lovelorn, misunderstood hero, he's the killer--and the main character is the only one who knows the killer is a real vampire. (The original title was The Vampire's Kiss, but considering it's a suspense novel, this title is much more appropriate.) Okay. Signing out now. :-)
